Advanced Directives include Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney forms that allow you to document your wishes about how you want to be treated if you are not conscious or able to make informed decisions. Making decisions about medical care is not always easy and having everything in writing will help your family when it comes to your care.
In all emergency situations the necessary medical interventions will be provided and the patient will be stabilized before discussion of advanced directives is initiated. If a provider is physically present and immediately available who has intimate knowledge of the patient’s care plan and confidence in the context of an existing advance directive, they may choose to activate the Advance Care Directive.
