Washington, D.C. Community Health Centers deliver a unique approach to health care that generates system-wide savings and improves health -- a record of sucess that will continue as health centers expand their reach into more communities. A new policy brief, "Community Health Centers: The Local Prescription for Better Quality and Lower Costs," was released today at a Capitol Hill briefing. The paper reveals how health centers reduce unnecessary visits to hospital emergency rooms and save tax payers' dollars while providing one-quarter of all primary care visits for the nation's low-income population.
The briefing, hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers, comes as Congress determines future spending in a tight fiscal climate and patient demand on health center services continue to grow.
