Construction is ongoing at the new site for the Nashua Area Health Center, a Center for Lamprey Health Care, and is expected to be completed in October.
Currently located in 8,500 square feet at 10 Prospect Street in the annex of Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, the Nashua Area Health Center will be opening its new center at 22 Prospect Street in October of this year, and will be known as Lamprey Health Care. “We’re anxiously awaiting the opening of our new center, as it will allow us to better meet the growing demand for primary health care services in the Greater Nashua Community,” said Mariellen Durso, Site Director for Lamprey Health Care’s Nashua Center.
In support of this renovation and construction project, Lamprey Health Care recently announced that it was awarded $375,000 in tax credits from the Community Development Finance Authority Tax Credit Program. The tax credits will help offset the cost of the $4.7 million renovation and expansion project through financial contributions made by local businesses who would then receive a state tax credit for 75% of that contribution.
Local businesses that support the facility project can apply the CDFA Tax Credits to business profits, business enterprise and insurance premium taxes, in addition to deducting their donation as a federal charitable contribution as part of their federal tax filing. After potential federal tax benefits, the financial contribution to the facility project will cost the company approximately 11%, depending on their tax structure.
Companies large and small can take advantage of this opportunity said Ann H. Peters, CEO, Lamprey Health Care, and provides a great opportunity to support local initiatives that affect their families, employees, patrons and customers. “This allows local businesses who pay taxes every year to invest those taxes right back into the very community they serve, and to be a part of providing access to affordable health care for all,” she explained.
Lamprey Health Care’s Nashua Center experienced a 27% increase in demand for services since 2008, and has had consistent growth since opening their doors in 2000. The current facility became extremely overcrowded as a result, and the Nashua Center outgrow its capacity to meet the needs of the community and the uninsured. In 2009, Lamprey Health Care was awarded a $2.15 million American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Grant by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) to support a facility expansion project that will increase patient access to affordable health care.
Of the $4.7 million total project cost, Lamprey Health Care has already raised 90% of the funds necessary for the expansion project through its own funds, a loan, federal and community benefit grants, and donations. The Capital Campaign represents the remaining 10%, in part utilizing the CDFA Business Tax Credits.
