Newmarket – Thanks to the University of New Hampshire’s Admissions Office, local artist Richard Haynes’ latest work hangs in the Kids Waiting Room at Lamprey’s Newmarket Center, giving the pediatric patients and Staff at Lamprey Health Care something to smile about.
When the UNH Admissions Office signed up for the United Way’s Day of Caring, a request from Lamprey Health Care got them excited to take on this year’s project. Lamprey Health Care was looking for any volunteers willing to take on the task of decorating their Kids Waiting Room so that it would be a more welcoming environment for their pediatric patients. It was their Associate Director of Admissions, however, famed artist Richard Haynes, who helped them take the project to the next level by designing a 3x5 mural to be hung as permanent fixture.
Completely donated through the generosity and volunteer efforts of the UNH Admissions Staff, the mural was designed by Haynes and painted piece by piece by nearly 30 UNH Admissions Staff, who feel it serves not only as a colorful addition to the health center, but as an expression of community and commitment to others as well. “The Admissions Office has participated in the Day of Caring as a way to give back to local community organizations. The mural portion of this project allowed our whole staff to contribute to the creation of a piece of art that expresses a message of joy, playfulness and inclusion. We wouldn’t have been able to create the mural though without the generous support of our wonderful colleague, friend and local artist, Richard Haynes. He put the “art” in the project – he provided the image, the materials and the guidance to make it happen,” states Sharen Gibadlo, UNH Senior Admissions Director.
“We’re so grateful for the UNH Admissions Staff and Mr. Haynes – to have donated such a work of art is just amazing,” states Marcy Doyle, Newmarket Site Administrator. “For years to come this beautiful piece will serve as a testament to the generosity that exists within our community, and a commitment to making each child’s smile a little bit brighter when they visit Lamprey Health Care.”
