(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) today announced Lamprey Health Care in Newmarket has won a $2,136,410 competitive federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support its primary health care services. Through its clinics in Newmarket, Nashua, and Raymond, Lamprey provides care to 17,000 people, many of whom have few other options for primary care.
“For thousands of New Hampshire citizens, Lamprey offers crucial health services they might not be able to obtain elsewhere,” Shaheen said. “This award will help Lamprey continue to provide those services and help those patients who rely on them stay healthy.”
“This award renewal is critical to Lamprey’s ability to provide essential ongoing services to the medically underserved and uninsured patients in our three centers,” said Lamprey CEO Ann Peters. “Funding through this grant allows us to provide patients with access to primary care services and a medical home for individuals of all ages regardless of ability to pay.”
Lamprey won the funds through a competitive grant program at HHS that is designed to support comprehensive primary health care services to an underserved area or population.
Through its three centers located in Newmarket, Nashua and Raymond, Lamprey Health Care serves approximately 17,000 patients providing access to primary care and a medical home for individuals of all ages regardless of ability to pay. Lamprey Health Care was recently awarded continued level funding through the US Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration in the amount of $2,136,410, representing 18% of the health center’s primary care budget.
During the recession, specifically in the last two years, Lamprey Health Care’s total patient volume has continued to increase over 6% with a growth of over 12% in office visits. "This level federal funding comes at a time when we are facing cuts from the State of New Hampshire and we are deeply concerned about what the impact of approximately $600,000 in potential cuts will have on our programs from the State," states Ann Peters, CEO of Lamprey Health Care.
