Help for those with dental pain

Assistance is available for those with dental pain and infection.

You use your mouth and teeth to eat, drink and talk. Dental pain and infections can turn these everyday moments into a constant challenge. Through a generous grant from healthCareGIVES, we can offer assistance to our patients dealing with dental pain and/or infection.

As a primary care provider, our patients often present with untreated dental infections. We do not provide adult dental services at our facilities, so we work to refer patients to dental providers in the area. Unfortunately, we find many people without dental insurance cannot afford to follow up on the recommended dental care. According to the CDC nationwide, approximately 31% of adults have untreated dental caries, more commonly known as cavities. Untreated dental infections can lead to severe and significant health issues. Research has found that bacteria and inflammation in your mouth, such as gum disease, is associated with an increased risk for diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and stroke.

Lamprey Health Care patients who are experiencing dental pain and/or infection and are having difficulty paying for needed dental services are eligible for the healthcareGIVES program. This fund will help pay for dental treatment and coordinate care plans. We know that patients who are pregnant, taking psychiatric medications, or are dealing with substance use disorder are at a higher risk for dental infections, and we encourage them to apply to this program.

You must be a Lamprey Health Care patient to participate in the healthcareGIVES program. Call your primary care team, and ask to speak to the triage nurse. Describe to them the dental issue you are experiencing and ask to see your provider for an evaluation for the healthcareGIVES program. After your provider examines you, they will discuss and, if appropriate, refer you to the healthcareGIVES program. Our dental program coordinator will work with you to schedule an appointment with a participating dentist in the area. The healthcareGIVES program will pay for dental treatment fees.

If you or someone you may know is suffering from chronic dental pain and/or infection, call your provider today. The healthcareGIVES funds are limited and only available for Lamprey Health Care patients. Don’t delay. When the funds run out, the program will end. Does that make you sad? Us too! You can help keep the fund spread smiles by donating to the Lamprey Health Care Dental Emergency Fund.

Hi there, I am sorry to hear about your experiences. I hope the program is able to help you. Start by calling the Raymond office and tell them you would like to know if your provider could refer you to the Healthcare Gives dental program. The patient service representative should be able to take it from there. If for some reason you have an issue, you can ask to speak with the Site Director Terri Burdick who is also quite knowledgeable about the program. Best of luck.
